Florida Department of Law Enforcement officers arrested the mayor of Kissimmee on Wednesday morning in Osceola County. Mayor Jackie Espinosa faced charges of grand theft and organized scheme to defraud, according to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. In September, the Florida Commission on Ethics censured Espinosa after finding probable cause that Espinosa had a “relationship with an entity doing business with her agency when her business accepted grant money that was administered by her agency.” Blaise Ingoglia, Florida’s chief financial officer, announced that his auditing team and criminal investigations division worked on the case. Uthmeier, FDLE Commissioner Mark Keefe, and Ingoglia plan a news conference at 2 p.m. in Orlando to release details about the case. This is a developing story.
